Summary of Research
The main purpose of our laboratory is to understand the control of the energetic metabolism of glucose and how its deregulation produces human pathologies. Among these, we are particularly interested in a neurodegenerative epilepsy, Lafora disease, morphologically characterized by intracellular deposits of insoluble glycogen in diverse tissues. With this aim, we use several multidisciplinary approaches and methodologies, including molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics and phylogeny. We work with cell models in vivo and ex vivo, as well as with animal models, in vitro biochemical and structural biology studies.
